“Scaly-breasted Lorikeets”

~ The story behind the photo ~

Two scaly-breasted lorikeets at the entrance of their tree hollow. One with its head in the other looking at the camera.
A pair of Scaly-breasted Lorikeets rearing their young in a tree hollow.

Of the 50 species of Lories and lorikeets in the world, 7 are native to Australia. A pair of Scaly-breasted Lorikeets (Trichoglossus chlorolepidotus) are rearing their young in a tree hollow at Peacehaven Park in Highfields, Queensland. If (when?) you visit, they’re easy to see near the pond.
